The Sri Lanka Canada Business Council (SLCBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a vibrant Avurudu celebration titled Surya Udanaya – 2024 on April 5th at Ape Gama.
Graced by esteemed guests, His Excellency Canadian High Commissioner Eric Walsh and Designate High Commissioner to Canada, Mr. Mohamed Jauhar, the event was a testament to cultural exchange and camaraderie.
The festivities kicked off with traditional Sri Lankan customs, marked by the lighting of the oil lamp and the symbolic boiling of milk, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the raban drum. Attendees delighted in the sharing of authentic Sri Lankan sweetmeats, adding to the festive atmosphere. Throughout the event, attendees indulged in Avurudu Jana Kreeda, relished in the flavors of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, and were treated to the lively tunes of live calypso music.
Beyond the festivities, the event provided a platform to forge connections, strengthen existing networks, and foster new partnerships within the business community. It served as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka, while also celebrating the spirit of unity and collaboration between Sri Lanka and Canada.
