The Sri Lanka-Canada Business Council (SLCBC) successfully hosted its annual Members Day Evening on February 11, 2025, at the Hilton Colombo Residence. This year’s event was particularly special, welcoming non-members for the first time, fostering broader networking and collaboration. H.E. Eric Walsh, Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
A key highlight was the insightful panel discussion on “Unlocking Digital Trade & Investment: Strengthening Sri Lanka-Canada Ties,” featuring distinguished panelists: Ms. Renuka Weerakone (Director General, Board of Investment of Sri Lanka), Mr. Thimal Perera (Director/CEO, DFCC Bank PLC), Mr. Niro Cooke (Group Director, The Capital Maharaja Organisation (Pvt.) Limited), Mr. Kula Sellathurai (President, Canada Sri Lanka Business Convention) and moderated by Mr. Shiran Fernando (Chief Economic Policy Advisor at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce). The discussion explored leveraging digital innovation and enhancing trade partnerships. Attendees also benefited from an exclusive session by IRCC officials on visas for Canada.
